The Gym

Several times a week the students at the academy visited the gym. In Afrikaans it is spelled “gim” and pronounced more like “gHim”. Sometimes we had a trainer from the university’s varsity rugby team work with us and sometimes we were set free to roam the gym and train on our own. We spent most of our gym time with Andre in the Crossfit Box inside the huge, multistory, athletic facility. Every Friday we also joined the morning aqua aerobics and stretching classes.

One of Andre’s favorite forms of torture workouts:

Beastly: AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) for 30 minutes: 5 deadlifts, 5 hang cleans, 5 front squats, 5 push press, 10 bent over rows, 5 push ups on the bar, 10 5m shuttle runs
